[HOW TO MAKE EXERCISE ACCESSIBLE TO YOU](/blog?category=how-to-make-exercise-accessible-to-you)

The winter months can be incredibly challenging for people who live with chronic pain. Cold weather, less daylight, and the holidays all make it more difficult to maintain a consistent exercise routine. Here are 3 things you need to know about training and exercising during the winter months.

Dress for the Weather

It’s important to dress appropriately when exercising in cold weather, especially if you have chronic pain. Choose clothing that helps keep your body warm but not too warm – this will help prevent overheating which can lead to additional discomfort or flare-ups of existing symptoms. Wearing layers is best as it allows you to easily adjust if needed as well as remove them if needed once your body warms up from exercise. Make sure that whatever you wear is comfortable and doesn’t put any additional strain on areas of your body where you experience chronic pain.

Exercise Early

Cold weather can sap our energy levels faster than usual, so getting up early to exercise when we’re still fresh might be our best bet for actually getting some movement in before the day gets away from us! Early morning workouts kick start our metabolism and help us stay alert throughout the day while boosting mood and reducing stress levels at the same time.

Take Breaks When You Need Them

If at any point during your workout or training session you start feeling too uncomfortable or experience an increased level of pain, take a break! Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard – taking breaks when necessary is an important part of managing chronic pain while exercising during the winter months (or any time!). Give yourself permission to rest as needed and don’t feel guilty about it – it’s actually essential for proper recovery!

Exercising over the winter doesn’t have to be daunting or difficult if you are living with chronic pain—with these three tips in mind, anyone can find success in their workouts this season! You’ll be well on your way towards staying active even through the coldest days of winter ahead! Don’t forget–take care of yourself first so that you can maximize each workout session this season!
